Tuckerman family deeds, 1765-1831.

Deeds of Edward Tuckerman (1740-1818), baker, and his son Edward Tuckerman (1775-1843), both of Boston, Mass. Includes four deeds to the elder Tuckerman from John Lucas and inhabitants of Boston for land adjacent to Orange Street, 1765-1787; an appointment of the younger Tuckerman and other proprietors of Boston estates to a committee to negotiate with the City Council and the Boston and Roxbury Mill Corporation, 1826-1827; and one deed from the proprietors of Boston estates to the city for the building of roads, 1831. Deeds signed by William Cooper, Harbottle Dorr, Ellis Gray Loring, Mayor Harrison G. Otis, Ezekiel Price, John Scollay, and others.

A Boston lawyer and abolitionist who used his legal training to aid runaway slaves, Loring was an organizer of the New England Anti-Slavery Society. He married Louisa Gilman (1797-1868) in 1827. Their daughter, Anna Loring Dresel (1830-1896), was vice president of the Boston Sanitary Commission during the Civil War and president of Vincent Hospital. She married Otto Dresel (1826-1890), a German pianist and composer in 1863; they had two children: Louisa Loring Dresel (1864-195?) and Ellis Loring...
